Often for typos they take Gogol's peculiar writing style. These are not typos, this is what the author intended!
Reread the poem again (that’s how Gogol described the genre of his work) - this is a story about the real “Russian business” of the first half of the 19th century.
The story of the adventures of Pavel Ivanovich Chichikov was conceived by N.V. Gogol as a three-volume work. Judging by the fragmentary information that has reached us, the author wanted to show in his poem the diversity of Russian life. The plot of the poem was prompted by Gogol A.S. Pushkin (as well as the plot of The Inspector General).
Unfortunately, the work remained unfinished. Only the first volume was published, the manuscript of the second volume was burned by the author, and the third volume remained only in draft sketches.
